A Leader in Canadian Organic Grain.

Bringing innovation to Canadian organic grain production

GIOSI

A leader in Organic Grain

For over 35 years, GIOSI has been a leader in the Canadian organic grain industry.

Our History

What We Do

GIOSI’s full-service capabilities ensure an effortless transition from the producer to the end user through purchasing, shipping, cleaning, blending, storing, milling and selling of organic commodities.

Our network of organic certified grain elevators are strategically located in Western Canada, in the core of Canada’s major grain growing regions.

Through our marketing network, we are able to source organic non-GMO ingredients worldwide, saving you the hassle and risk of international transactions.

We strive to bring innovation to organic grain production by aligning with partners in the industry and by promoting the transition from conventional to organic crop production.

Our History

In 1978, Growers International Organic Sales Inc. (GIOSI), started as a small farm located in Saskatchewan. At the time, curiosity in organic food and its’ production was growing. The market interest in organics and the opportunity to grow pesticide and herbicide-free crops presented many Saskatchewan farmers the opportunity to switch from conventional to organic production. The early staff of GIOSI helped provide guidance and expertise in agronomy, certification, and market development to many of these transitioning Saskatchewan farmers.

Improving Processes

In 1985, GIOSI helped in enabling the industry’s techniques to be officially recognized as a distinct production method. With the Canadian Government’s recognition, GIOSI was then able to market organic grain products to the global market. As global demand increased, so too did the number of growers and grain production.

A Strategic Focus

In 1999, GIOSI developed a strategic alliance with another agriculture leader, Paterson Grain. Paterson Grain’s century of experience in the Canadian Grain industry and extensive logistics network spanning Western Canada provided GIOSI significant handling advantages. GIOSI converted a number of Paterson Grain elevators to certified organic cleaning, storage and loading facilities. The CGC Licensed facilities provide GIOSI with logistic capabilities needed to move grain efficiently, while ensuring quality.

Over a Quarter Century

Over the past 30 years, GIOSI continues to take an active role in establishing both domestic and international markets. GIOSI’s involvement in organics has helped the industry grow into a healthy emerging market, and build an extensive network both internationally and within Canada. With a reputation for quality and commitment, GIOSI continues to provide buyers worldwide with quality Canadian organic grains. As well, our global network and trade expertise enable us to source organic grains and products worldwide with critical partners in Asia, South America, and Europe.

GIOSI’s services are compliant with social, economic and ecological sustainability.

Quality Control

Canadian grains are known throughout the world for their consistent quality. As a registered grain company with the Canadian Grain Commission, our practices and quality adhere to the highest standards. As well, our in-house lab staff enables us to address grain quality questions and issues proactively. Our customers know the quality specifications of their shipment before it arrives.

Efficiency

Any grain trading enterprise must provide efficient delivery of its product right to the destination of client usage. GIOSI’s in-house logistical expertise and elevator and cleaning network offer direct delivery to a customer’s facility, in addition to a Cost Insured Freight (CIF) option to the closest seaport. This door-to-door service means that GIOSI handles all logistics, insurance, and paperwork required to deliver the product to the client’s door.

Sustaining the integrity of the organic grain handling process is viewed as a critical component of our industry. All of GIOSI facilities are inspected and certified under the Canadian Organic Regime (COR), with full NOP and EU organic equivalencies.  As well, we maintain “Bio-Suisse” certification for export to the Swiss market.
